'Mater

Our first tomato of the season.

Our plant markers were soon erased by rain, sun, whatever. So this is our mystery 'mater. I have high hopes for it. Caprese? Mmmm...

Our cucumbers are flowering and so are the bell peppers. Though we've already mysteriously lost one tiny bell.

I have a confession. I'm not even sure what these plants are. Is that tall one possibly corn? We did plant popcorn though I don't know what we'd do with the harvest. I'm a reluctant gardener at best, but I love the end product. The fresh flowers. The greenery. The edibles. So I try. In a week or so, the farmers market here will be in full swing. Maybe our vegetable garden will be as well.

  1. These pictures are absolutely beautiful! Your garden puts my little window sill basil to shame! If you don't mind my asking, what camera do you use?

  2. I have worked in a lily farm for about 6 months. I wanted to pass on the label resolution for you. First of all, as you may know there are many labels available for a high cost, and some last for years of course. However, in the greenhouse in the winter I learned this little label saver. Take old venetian blinds,(even new ones are cheap at family dollar stores), cut them the length you want to go into the ground, or in seed pot for transplant. Mark the cut blind piece albeit label with an arts and crafts marker that is used for plastic, fine point is good. Often these markers go on sale, and last a very long time. The writing on the markers lasts longer than the marker itself. I noticed the farm had many years and years old. Because we mark hundreds of seedlings each year, that get transplanted several times, this method is tried and true.

  3. SBK, thanks so much! I'm new to serious photography so it means a lot to hear that you like my photos. I have a Canon Rebel XTi. I mainly used a fixed focal length 50mm lens, the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II. A few weeks ago, I got a macro (Canon macro EF 100mm 2.8 USM) that I'm using for most of my shots now. I love, love, love it.

Candace, thanks so much for the label tip. The previous owner of our house was an avid gardener, and we have so many plants that we need to mark. This will really help!
