Kitchen shelf love

This may be a classic case of a picture is worth a thousand words.

I love open shelves in kitchens. Whether they're elegantly decorative or eclectic and functional, open shelves have a certain warm, inviting charm. So you can imagine my happy dance when Will put up my wall shelves. It's the perfect place to stash the girls' art supplies.

And a place to showcase my favorite Mason Cash bowl. I smile every time I walk into my kitchen.

The new display space inspired me to research white ironstone. Did you know that white ironstone is trendy? I had no idea. Is there some odd Jungian collective kitchen decorating unconscious at work here? I've been spending many happy hours puttering around etsy looking at white ironstone.

You can really see the wall color here...Farrow & Ball Farrow's Cream. A gently sunny color...perfect for our many gray New England days. Only a few more items to finish before my kitchen is 100% done. (Or maybe it will always be a work lovingly in progress...)

  1. That's the way I like to see open shelving...Utilitarian, colorful, and like someone lives there and uses them....All while being neat and adding to the nice appearance of the room. The contents add warmth and cheer. And, of course, a Mason Cash bowl is always a winner!

I also love that cabinet underneath your shelves. Have you shown that before?

  2. Love pics of your kitchen! That Ikea cab under the shelves is a personal fave of mine. I covet a bank of those for my craft room. Thanks for sharing your shelving.

I'm hosting a Throwback Thursdays Party, and would love it if you swung by and linked up something you made/bought/did from before blogging. I can't wait to see what you bring.

  3. Thanks, guys! I love, love, love my IKEA drawer unit. It's super cute and really practical. I think it would be fantastic in a craft/sewing room!

Was there life before blogging? Is Throwback Thursdays every Thursday? I'm not sure if I have time to do it today (son's concert tonight), but I'll think up something for next week.

  4. What an excellent shot of your kitchen! Love the Ikea piece in there!!! I just saw some Ironstone in the Salvation Army the other day but I didn't buy. My taste is more milk glass. Looks terrific. Agree with Rh. Love the I LIVE HERE look!
