So there's good news and bad news...

The bad news is that I came home this afternoon to find only the short wall of tile up. The back story. The tiler said he would come yesterday. He did not. He declared that he could do the entire job Friday. This morning, it was amended to installation today, grouting tomorrow. And this afternoon...well...you know the story.

This seems to be a recurring reno pattern. A really, really annoying recurring pattern.

The tiler, plumber, and electrician were all scheduled to get their work done this week. One-third out of three isn't the greatest batting average. You'd get sent down to the minors for sure.

I'd been telling my friends that we should have a working kitchen sometime next week. Was I crazy? Tempting fate? Not knocking on wood? Counting my chickens? Ugh.

Good news? Well, I think the backsplash looks good.

  1. I'm toying with the idea of starting a bathroom reno in January, but I'm afraid to hire tilers for just this reason!

In other news: I love your tile and the flooring choice in the previous post. Also the painted cabinets. I've thought about doing gray cabinets on the bottom in the kitchen, but my dad says I'm crazy. You're proof otherwise!

Hope your husband's knee is improving!

  2. I also really like the tile, cabinet color, and countertop. Your so right about contractors. They always promise what they know they can't deliver. Hope you get your kitchen working soon. I am doing an extensive renovation in Brookline.

  3. Thanks, guys! I'm so happy that you like my kitchen! I just hope eventually it will become a working kitchen again.

Abby, I have some great inspiration photos with gray cabinets that I'd be glad to email. Just let me know. And don't let me scare you from a reno! My tile is handmade (not exactly the same size or shape) and a blend of colors. It was tricky, detailed work, and the tiler did a great job.

Allegra, so true about contractors. All of my guys have done really good work, but boy, the timeline has gone bye-bye. I hope your renovation is going well. Extensive renovation sounds tiring. A friend of mine did her entire house over two years. I don't think I have the stamina.
